The 2023 Barossa Valley Shiraz is made by David Lehmann of david Franz. A three-barrel blend selected from our Bultawilta, Horse Paddock and House on the Hill Blocks to create a rich, Barossa Shiraz that drinks beautifully now or will go the distance in any cellar -

Production:

300 ltrs of 2022 Shiraz from our Bultawilta Shiraz Vineyard - 300 ltrs of 2022 Shiraz from our Horse Paddock Shiraz Vineyard - 300 ltrs of 2022 Shiraz from our House on the Hill Shiraz Vineyard - 100 dozen Made.

Colour:

Deep rich crimson red with a dark central core.

Bouquet:

Boysenberry compote, spice box and Redskin lollies. Oak flavours are discreet and distant

Palate:

Dave Lehmann has again produced a textbook Barossa Shiraz for Foundation Barossa. I’ve long been a fan of Dave’s David Franz wines of all colours and this bears all the characteristics of his craft.

2022 was the second of three consecutive la ñina vintages and produced wines of outstanding flavour development. There is the richness here sought by many drinkers. The satsuma fruit is supported by background oak that suggests cardamon and cinnamon spice. The oak is subtle but pleasantly ‘cedary’; I’m reminded of opening an antique wardrobe filled with tweed jackets and highly polished old leather boots. 

This is a shiraz that delights the palate at release but will continue to give pleasure over many years to come.
